Noyce Scholarship Application
Benefits and Obligations of the Noyce
Scholarship Program:
Each Noyce
Scholar will:
- Receive
up to $10,000 per year for up to 2 years (either junior and senior years
or senior and credential years).
- Work in
a San Bernardino City USD secondary school for four hours per week,
under the guidance of a selected mentor teacher.
- Receive
subject speific academic and pedagogical advising and mentoring.
- Participate
in monthly seminars, in-person and online.
- Work as
a teacher in SBCUSD for two years for each year of funding
In addition, the Noyce Scholarship program offers
accelerated completion of the credential, as the seminars and supervised
teaching will conform to the requirements of a number of CSUSB credential
seminar courses.
Eligibility and selection Criteria:
- At most 90 units to graducation in one of the
following majors: mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, or geology.
- Full-time enrollment (12 units) in a program
of courses appropriate for the major.
- Minimum 3.0 overall GPA and 2.7 GPA in major.
- Interest in teaching as a career.
- Potential to do well in a diverse public school
setting.
- Must be eligible for employment in SBCUSD after
graduation
Application Requirements:
- Completed Application Form (available below)
- Please write a maximum one-page, 12 point font,
essay in which you address the following:
- Your professional goals
- Why you should be considered for the scholarship.
Include a description of the specific knowledge, skills, and dispositional
attributes that you bring to the teaching profession. You may also
include any anecdotal experiences that have attracted you toward pursuing
a career in teaching
- Your expectations from the Noyce Scholarship
program
- Any additional information you wish the Noyce
Admissions Committee to know about you.
- Unofficial transcript(s) from your current institution
of attendance and any past institutions you have attended. (Official
transcripts may be requested at a future time.)
- A copy of your FAFSA Application if you wish
to have financial need considered.
Applications will
be reviewed on an ongoing basis from January 24, 2007 until all scholarships
are awarded.
